Earlier this month the Vigo County Clerk’s office posted the official 2023 primary results and the precinct by precinct results. The image above is linked to a dynamic map with vote counts for each precinct.

Brandon Sakbun won the election with 2,414 votes representing 54% of the 4,448 total ballots cast in the Demcratic mayoral primary, while Pat Goodwin received 2,034 or 46%.

In the map pictured above the precincts that Goodwin won are colored blue (12), Sakbun’s are red (34), and the precincts where they tied or no votes were cast are gray (6).

Goodwin’s largest margin of victory, with 68% compared to Sakbun’s 32%, came in precinct 5A, which includes the residents surrounding the US HWY 41 and 63 split in north Terre Haute.

Sakbun’s largest margin, with 77% compared to Goodwin’s 33%, came in precinct 4A, which includes Locust, Elm, Tippecanoe, and Spruce from 7th to 13th, as well as the property just east of Indiana State University.

However, only 13 votes were cast in precinct 4A which was one precinct among several that showed an extraordinarily low voter turn out. Only 4.4% of registered voters in 4A voted in the Democratic mayoral primary, only 2.4% in 5C, 3.4% in 5B, and 4.4% in 4B.

Sakbun received his largest vote count on the city’s south east side in precincts 9G and 9F collecting 123 and 120 votes in those districts respectively. Goodwin also had a strong showing on the south east side as well, gaining 145 and 120 votes in precincts 8C and 9F.
