Accoring to a report in the Indianapolis Star, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced on Friday that eight former employees have been charged with overtime theft.
An internal investigation flagged “unusual overtime patterns,” prompting a deeper look by MCSO investigators. The investigation revealed evidence that the employees allegedly submitted claims for overtime work they never completed.
MCSO criminal investigators presented their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, leading to charges against Arielle Pharms, Christopher Clayton, Dorothy Carter, Mariam Adamson-Alvarez, Oluwafemi Osanyin, Tamika Gouch, Tiffany Miller, and Jamie Cinevert. The total amount of alleged fraudulent overtime pay is estimated at $13,617.34.
“We hold our employees to the highest standards of integrity and accountability,” said Sheriff Kerry Forestal. “The actions of these individuals are not reflective of the values upheld by the MCSO – as evidenced by their termination and criminal charges.”
Authorities have indicated that restitution will be sought as part of the criminal justice process.
