According to a report in the Times of Northwest Indiana, a Gary police commander has been arrested pending trial on child exploitation and pornography charges. Magistrate Judge Abizer Zanzi ruled that James Bond, 52, posed a danger to the community.
Bond faces accusations of enticing a 17-year-old intern to produce explicit photos. The alleged incidents occurred during the summer of 2023 while the teen was part of the city’s Summer Youth Employment program. Bond pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The government presented evidence suggesting Bond’s crimes extended beyond the initial allegations. They revealed investigations into similar incidents involving at least one other teenage victim. Zanzi said the evidence indicated a pattern of grooming and abuse of power.
Defense attorneys argued for Bond’s release, citing conditions that could mitigate any risk to the community. However, Zanzi ultimately determined that Bond’s detention was necessary to protect potential victims and ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
