According to WFIE Evansville, Maria Rodriguez, a CNA at Oakwood assisted living in Tell City was detained by ICE after her immigration appointment in Indianapolis. Maria is currently seeking asylum in the US from Venezuela.

The report also included comments from family members of residents and coworkers. Carol Zellers, an Oakwood resident’s daughter stated, “We are family here. Everyone is family, and Maria is a very big part of that.”

The executive director of Oakwood also issued a statement in support of Rodriguez,

“Here at Oakwood, our goal is to be the best place our employees have ever belonged – and that includes Maria. Her attention to detail, her radiance, and her spirit of positivity makes her an inseparable member of our family – and we stand with her supporters in the community in their outpouring of love and support.”

Maria is currently being held at the Grayson County Detention Center, a facility just over an hour south of Louisville, Kentucky.
