Over the past two weeks police have responded to four shootings, two stabbings, and multiple battery related incidents, causing residents to express concern about violence and mental health in the community.
On September 16th a call came over the scanner reporting a gunshot victim at 7th and Washington, then on September 20th police responded to reports of gunshots at Charlie’s Pub. It is not known at this time whether arrests have been made in either of these incidents.
On September 22nd, police surrounded a residence near 13 1/2 and Wheeler after reports were made that an individual was in the street with an AK47. Initial reports indicated that law enforcement had someone detained, but it appears an arrest has not been made at this time.
Later the same day police responded to reports of a stabbing on Copper Ave in West Terre Haute. Witnesses, however, claimed that the incident was battery and intimidation, and not a stabbing, but confirmation of these details has not been verified.
The following day, September 23rd, police responded to reports of an individual with a shotgun on North 10th Street. Upon arrival the suspect fled and was eventually detained with the assistance of a Terre Haute Fire Department ladder truck.
Last night, September 26th, multiple THPD units responded to large fights near 6th and Wabash, and several individuals were detained as a result.
THVN has contacted the Terre Haute Police Department’s public information officer, Lieutenant Justin Sears for information related to the investigations of these cases, but has not received a response at this time.
