According to court records, the suspect in a downtown shooting over the weekend had two prior arrests in 2025. One for domestic battery in August, and one for criminal recklessness in April.
Javon Wilson, age 23, was arrested on October 19th, with a preliminary charge of reckless homicide. The probable cause affidavit in the arrest states that Wilson, the victim Skyleen Ross, and several others had been drinking at The Verve, and were then hanging out in the parking garage.
Witnesses at the scene gave statements indicating that Wilson told them he had a gun, then showed it to them, and Ross asked him if it was loaded. He responded that it wasn’t, and then shortly after the gun was fired striking Wilson in the hand and Ross in the chest.
Wilson had been previously arrested on August 31st, 2025, and charged with Domestic Battery in the presence of a minor (F6), Domestic Battery (MA), and Theft (MA). Wilson appeared in court of Judge Christopher Newton on September 3rd, with first appearance counsel Michael Nasser, who requested Wilson be released on his own recognizance.
Wilson was released and order to appear at either Choices or the Hamilton Center for anger management. He was scheduled for a follow up hearing on November 17th.
Wilson had also been arrested on April 20th, 2025 on preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness committed by shooting a firearm into an inhabited dwelling or building, and Carrying a handgun without a license.
In his initial hearing on April 21st, Wilson was represented by first appearance counsel Michael Nasser. Bail was set at $15,000 no 10%, by Judge Charles Johnson, and Wilson was evaluated and placed in Vigo County Community Corrections.
A jury trial was scheduled for July 28th, and on June 4th Wilson appeared with public defendant Kristin Szczerbik for a bond reduction hearing, in which an order was granted allowing for 10% bond payment.
On July 14th, Wilson posted bond and was released on his own recognizance, and on July 16th a continuance was granted pushing back the trial to November 3rd.
