In an opinion article published by the Washington Post, former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said that, “While the outcome sought is one I support, the tactic being employed to get there is not, and I hope earnestly that my state’s leaders will politely decline to participate.”
Daniels went on to explain that out-of-cycle redistricting was very rare, and that one of those examples was an attempt at gerrymandering in the 1980’s by Illinois Democrats.
Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith shared a much sentiment on the Indiana LG website stating, “Indiana should be leading the nation, not apologizing for being a strong conservative state, while radical Democrat Marxists wage war on our Constitution.”
Beckwith also condemned Indiana senate republicans for, “failing to stand with President Trump, failing to defend the voice of Hoosier voters, and failing to deliver the 9-0 conservative map our citizens overwhelmingly expect.”
According to an article from Politco, Molly Swigart, spokesperson for Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray, announced that, “The votes aren’t there for redistricting.”
The Politco article also claimed that, “Trump allies, including Turning Point Action and the late Charlie Kirk, have threatened primaries for Hoosier holdouts who do not back Trump’s mid-cycle redistricting plan.”
