Suspect in north end stabbing, shot by police, pronounced dead.

At approximately 11:30 am the Terre Haute Police Department responded to a call from 1644 1st Ave involving a possible stabbing. According to Indiana State Police Information Officer Matt Ames, upon arrival a THPD officer heard screams and made entry into the home.

The officer was reportedly confronted by a man with a knife and commanded the individual to drop his weapon. Those directions were allegedly ignored and the man moved toward the officer.

Ames stated that the officer then pulled his service weapon and shot the suspect. Neighbors on the scene reported to THVN that they heard six shots fired.

The officer reportedly called for an ambulance and immediately started first aid. Ames shared that the individual who was shot has died, and that a female at the scene was transported to a local hospital with stab wounds.

Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt has made a request for the Indiana State Police to take over the investigation. Public records requests will be made for body camera footage and ISP incident reports.

The Indiana State Police have identified the suspect as 42 years old James Ready and the officer as patrolman Adam Noel. The stabbing victim is believed to be a juvenile female.
