Update: This article has been revised to reflect that Edmondson Family Funeral Home was applying for the license and not Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.

In a previous article, THVN covered the Indiana Funeral and Cemetery Boards decision to revoke the license of Gary Greiner. During the same August 6th, 2026 hearing the board also denied a license for Edmondson Family Funeral Home to operate the former Greiner location.

Jeff Edmondson, owner and funeral director of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, appeared before the board seeking a license to continue funeral services at the former Greiner location.

When asked about his relationship to Greiner and his lawyer Mike Ellis, Edmondson responded, “We will have no ties or relations with Mr. Greiner or his representatives.”

Immediately following that statement, Edmondson was questioned about his decision to lease rather than purchase the building, and admitted to leasing the building from Greiner.

After further questioning it was also discovered that Edmondson and Greiner had worked together, that his wife had worked for Greiner, and that he and Greiner would be equally splitting the profits from the location.

Board member Thomas Sproles exclaimed, “He still owns the funeral home, he’s still pulling the strings. Oh, oh, oh, I don’t need anything else at all…I make a motion to deny this application.” The board then voted unanimously on the denial.

Sproles went on to further reprimand Edmondson stating, “You sat there and told us you had no association whatsoever…and then you present this agreement that states you and Greiner are splitting profits from the business.”

Edmondson responded, “When you asked me that question my understanding was, if there was any personal ties. That was how I interpreted your question.”

The board also took issue with the decision made by Mike Ellis to try and send Edmonson files related to the funeral arrangements that were being investigated.

“He had told us that he was sending the files to us, I called the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and asked if we were able to do that, and they advised us absolutely not. We contacted Mr. Ellis and said do not bring those files to us.”
